Job Title – Safety Officer (Health, Safety & Environment)
Role of the Safety Officer is to evaluate and monitor Health, Safety & Environment hazards and develop strategies to control risks, provide safety management, advice, monitoring, and reporting etc. in the workplace. The role also includes engage staff in programs that ensure safe practice, inspection of the construction sites to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and those for the handling and storage of hazardous substances.
Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring safety compliance on construction sites, particularly in high-rise commercial and residential building projects. The role involves overseeing and enforcing safety policies, conducting regular inspections, training workers on
safety practices, and minimizing risks to maintain a safe work environment.
Key deliverables:
- Ensure all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations
o Develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols specific to high-rise projects - Identify potential hazards on the construction site and implement control measures
o Conduct risk assessments and safety audits regularly - Conduct daily safety inspections on high-rise construction sites
o Address and rectify unsafe conditions immediately
o Keep records of all safety inspections and findings - Develop and implement strategies to prevent accidents and injuries
o Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports
o Recommend corrective actions to avoid future accidents - Organize and conduct safety training sessions for workers and contractors
o Ensure workers are aware of safety policies, first aid procedures, and emergency responses
o Conduct toolbox talks to reinforce safety measures - Monitor and maintain safety equipment (e.g., helmets, harnesses, scaffolding)
Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all workers - Maintain accurate safety records, including daily reports, safety logs, and accident reports
o Provide regular updates to project management and ensure compliance with safety regulations - Prepare and implement emergency response plans specific to high-rise buildings
o Act as the first point of contact during emergencies or safety incidents - Coordinate with site management, engineers, contractors, and local authorities regarding safety concerns
o Participate in safety meetings with project stakeholders - Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in safety regulations
o Implement innovative safety solutions to improve construction site safety
o Support in development, implementation and evaluation of HSE programs and strategies
o Provide consultation and deliver training programs to employer and employees on issues of workplace safety and environmental protection
o Compile and maintain relevant registers to ensure compliances
o Conduct Health, safety and environmental audits
o Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislations
o Oversee installations, maintenance, proper disposal of debris/chemicals etc.
o Stop and report acts / processes that would compromise safety
o Maintain relevant HSE policies on site at all times
o Site housekeeping works, logistic planning & monitoring as per the requirements.
o Timely reporting / updating
o Monitoring, inspection, maintenance and audit of labour, machineries, equipment’s, tools etc., regularly or as per company policy
o Any other task assigned by Engineer/ Reporting Manager/Heads.
Desired Requirements:
- Diploma / BE / B Tech in Civil Engineering / Diploma in Fire & Safety Engineering / Industrial Safety Managements, with relevant certifications
- 5 – 8 years of proven on-site experience in Health, Safety & Environmental in High Rise Commercial/Residential Building construction
- Sound knowledge of legislation and procedures, potentially hazardous materials or practices etc.
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- Good communication and interpersonal
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Eager to learn, adaptable and flexible, willing to work with and through others
- Knowledge on ISO practise and documentation
